SMART HIRING TIPS

xREAL TIPS FOR HIRING A "FAUX"   FINISHERx

Before hiring a professional to perform any home improvement project we urge the "buyer to beware". As Faux Professionals, the following tips reflect Paint & Paper Works' own philosophy. Ours is a philosophy to which we subscribe everyday when working with our customers and it is one upon which our business is founded and our reputation has been built. Whether or not we do your next Faux project, these tips can help you ensure that you will make the proper choices when it comes to choosing the right Faux Artisan to create and complete your home's decorative painting project.

Learn a little bit about Decorative Painting and Faux Finishes before you sign a contract with a Faux Finish professional.

Shop around to compare and contrast project services.

Obtain more than one quote for your project.

Enquire about the artist's background (training and experience).

Ask the artist if he/she is licensed and bonded; request the numbers of these certificates.

Ask detailed questions about the project, the paint processes, the artist's standards of operation, the project quote and the contract.

Request to see samples and photographs of the artist's work. The quality and detail of the workmanship is what you are looking for in the photographs.

Request samples of the finishes you choose; the cost of the sample(s) is worth the peace of mind you will derive from seeing what the completed finish will look like.

Ask for a reference list. Contact these past clients yourself to learn about the commitment, dedication, quality, timeliness, and professionalism of the artist and his/her work.

Get all aspects of the quote and the contract in writing.

If you are not sure about something-ASK.

If you don't understand something-OBTAIN CLARIFICATION.

Never ASSUME.

WHAT IS FAUX FINISHES vs. PAINT?

The difference between the two techniques is in the final "look". Faux finishes add transparent color, dimension, texture and pattern to walls.

Paint is opaque color, with no dimension texture or pattern. Faux finishes use specialty products and tools to create visual interest for the eye to follow, painting does not.
