The
art of faux finishing is a time-honored
decorating craft. Today's faux finishes
used by Paint & Paper Works, mix
age old painting techniques with new
methods, texture products and innovative
ideas that go far beyond those of old
world masters.
Our techniques enable us to reproduce
natural finishes, such as woods, marbles,
metals, stone and other coveted materials,
with tremendous realism and durability.
We pride ourselves in being the best,
using only experienced artisans to create
our finishes.

WHAT
IS THE ORIGIN OF THE
DECORATIVE PAINTING TRADITION?
|
We
know caveman painted on the walls of
their caves. The Greeks and Romans painted
their walls to reflect the look of real
marble and stone. The Egyptians painted
frescoes. The Victorians were so enamored
with the look of marble, woods, etc.
for fashion's sake, that they painted
reproductions of these textures and
finishes on their walls.
Today, we want our homes to reflect
our own personalities and interests
and faux finishes can accomplish just
such a task. Surprisingly, decorative
painting, for all its rich traditions,
can be as contemporary as today and
as innovative as tomorrow.

WHAT
IS FAUX
FINISHES
vs. PAINT?
The difference between the two techniques
is in the final "look". Faux
finishes add transparent color, dimension,
texture and pattern to walls.
Paint is opaque color, with no
or little dimensional texture or pattern.
Faux finishes use specialty products
and tools to create visual interest
for the eye to follow, painting does
not.
